It’s been a successful weekend for both of our social enterprises, the Folk Club had a good evening with Ayrshire band Luckenbooth while the Astronomy Club’s Stargazing Live Event to tie in with the recent BBC show of the same name, was very well attended and the skies were crystal clear for most of the four hours. As ever when I go along to DB Astro I do so as lowest common denominator, so that, hopefully, people will realise that you don’t have to be an expert, an interest in the subject is all it takes. I don’t know much about it, I’m no physicist but I can find Orion and use a star map to find other things. I’ve seen two total eclipses of the sun, the International Space Station, a lunar eclipse, the rings of Saturn and the bands of Jupiter. Plus I know how to hide round the side of the Kabin to keep out of the wind. There were quite a few new faces and Paul was so very pleased to be able to show them live sightings in the night sky.
Props to Makbule and Melisa for the excellent catering as ever. It was also good to see Jill and Ally there and to meet Toby the dog.
