Meditation

I suppose I should really be putting something in here about recent events, but the fact that my – our – dad was not of the social media generation makes me reluctant.  I never really tried to explain Facebook to him and I think he would probably have been faintly horrified at the wannabe celebrity mentality which has engulfed it.   I don’t dismiss the huge sense of comfort and  companionship derived by many from it in a virtual fashion, and indeed it has shown itself to be a force for good in very many ways, especially as a community noticeboard.   But dad was, and I am going to use one of his favourite words here, someone who would cavil at the very thought of making so much personal detail so very public.  Anyway, I can do little better than add the quote from William Shakespeare, used to telling effect in the eulogy and suggested by his great friend David.

His life was gentle, and the elements
So mixed in him that Nature might stand up
And say to all the world, “This was a man.”
Julius Caesar,  Act V scene v.
