A slumber did my spirit seal;<\/p>\n

I had no human fears:<\/p>\n

She seemed a thing that could not feel<\/p>\n

The touch of earthly years.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

No motion has she now, no force;<\/p>\n

She neither hears nor sees;<\/p>\n

Rolled round in earth’s diurnal course,<\/p>\n

With rocks, and stones, and trees.<\/p>\n

Starting to feel this way about winter, I usually do in February.\u00a0 Poor old Wordsworth must have been so bereft when his sister died, to write this. \u00a0 It’s a deceptively simple piece which has stayed with me ever since Mrs Ovens read it to us in 2nd year. \u00a0 I feel the elemental impact of the second last line every time I read it.<\/p>\n

Very differently, we went to an America football match on Sunday, VIPs doncha know, which meant a warm room to hunker down in on a day when the mercury tipped 0\u00b0 and we were pleased to partake of free tea, coffee and soup.\u00a0 Drew the line at hot dogs because … well, just because, God knows what they are made of and all that is off limits for me anyway just now.\u00a0\u00a0 I did have half of one of Paul’s chips.<\/p>\n
