Toad<\/strong><\/p>\n Stop looking like a purse.\u00a0 How could a purse<\/p>\n squeeze under the rickety door and sit,<\/p>\n full of satisfaction, in a man’s house?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n You clamber towards me on your four corners –<\/p>\n right hand, left foot, left hand, right foot.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I love you for being a toad,<\/p>\n for crawling like a Japanese wrestler,<\/p>\n and for not being frightened.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I put you in my purse hand, not shutting it,<\/p>\n and set you down outside directly under<\/p>\n every star.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n A jewel in your head?\u00a0 Toad,<\/p>\n you’ve put one in mine,<\/p>\n a tiny radiance in a dark place.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
