Rosemary and I exchanged poems yesterday, both by Norman MacCaig.<\/p>\n

Blue tit on a string of peanuts<\/strong><\/p>\n

A cubic inch of some stars<\/p>\n

weighs a hundred tons – Blue tit,<\/p>\n

who could measure the power<\/p>\n

of your tiny spark of energy?\u00a0 Your hair-thin legs<\/p>\n

(one north-east, one due west) support<\/p>\n

a scrap of volcano, four inches<\/p>\n

of hurricane: and, seeing me, you make the sound<\/p>\n

of a grain of sawdust being sawn<\/p>\n

by the minutest of saws.<\/p>\n

A mountain is a sort of music: theme<\/p>\n

And counter theme displaced in air amongst<\/p>\n

Their own variations.<\/p>\n

Wagnerian Devil signed the Coigach score<\/p>\n

And God was Mozart when he wrote Cul Mor.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You climb a trio when you climb Cul Beag.<\/p>\n

Stac Polly – there’s a rondo in seven sharps<\/p>\n

Neat as a trivet.<\/p>\n

And Quinag, rallentando in the haze,<\/p>\n

Is one long tune extending phrase by phrase.<\/p>\n

I listen with my eyes and see through that<\/p>\n

Mellifluous din of sharpness my masterpiece<\/p>\n

Of masterpieces.<\/p>\n

One sandstone chord that holds up time in space –<\/p>\n

Sforzando Suilven on his ground bass.<\/p>\n
