Just back from Blair Atholl, yet another wonderful weekend with Yard of Ale, On the Wagon, After 8 Mince and the Lilting Tilters.
Most of DBFC pitched up on Friday night, and enjoyed a grand meal followed by many hours of music, laughter and insults. On Saturday, after exchanging some wake up jokes at breakfast, we all went our separate ways, only to meet up several times as as we explored the nearby attractions. Em, that’s except for the folk who didn’t actually go to bed, but turned up for breakfast and then went for some shut eye. More chums arrived during the day.
In the afternoon the ad hoc choir known as the Lilting Tilters (hotel is the Bridge of Tilt, beside the River Tilt, at the foot of Glen Tilt, and it still was not me who came up with the name, major props to Liz), was tutored in Over the Rainbow and Waltzing Matilda, with special coda written by Maggie, while Ken took the lead vocal for the latter. If you’re thinking, ” Who are all these people?” then come along to the next gig and find out.
After 8 Mince played their first gig in 5 months, and it seemed to be well received. I do sit upstairs having a mild panic attack just before, the guys all seem to be so ready for it, but once we all start then we link in with each other and keep everyone right. It’s a particular privilege to have our own songwriter, Bill, who will turn up to rehearsals with a slew of new numbers which came to him at 2:15 a.m. All we can do is is accept gratefully!
Left this morning in brilliant sunshine, I so wish it could go on for much longer, but the old showbiz adage rings true, always leave them wanting more. Plus, some of us have to go to work tomorrow.
We missed Audrey and Steve, and of course Sheila, who would have cheered us on and done all the actions.
